This weekend, music lovers across Hong Kong had the chance to enjoy live jazz performances for free at the annual Freespace Jazz Fest, held in West Kowloon Park. The festival’s open-air setting and free entry made it an inclusive event, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the soulful rhythms of jazz as Hong Kong’s weather began to cool.
Over four days from November 6 to 9, the Freespace Jazz fest showcased a vibrant lineup of local and international jazz artists. Starting from 3 pm to 10:45 pm, attendees were treated to smooth melodies in the scenic backdrop of West Kowloon’s lush greenery and modern architecture. The event attracted a diverse crowd, including families, students, and senior citizens, all eager to experience quality live music without any ticket barriers.

Local jazz guitarist and festival volunteer, Jennifer Hui, emphasized the importance of accessibility. “Jazz is for everyone. By offering free performances in a public space, we hope to bring more people into the world of jazz and inspire the next generation of musicians,” she said, smiling as she greeted festival-goers.

In addition to free performances, the festival gave opportunities to up-and-coming local HK jazz artists to showcase their craft. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the event’s community-driven spirit. “It’s incredible to experience live jazz outdoors for free while supporting local artists,” said university student Emily Wong. “I might be obsessed with Jazz now.”

As the curtains close on this year’s edition, excitement for next year’s Freespace Jazz Fest is already building. By removing barriers to access, the festival continues to promote jazz music and cultural engagement, ensuring that more people in Hong Kong can enjoy the magic of live jazz performances in a beautiful public space.
