The Mission for Migrant Workers (MFMW), an outreach ministry of St. John’s Cathedral, hosted its much-anticipated Annual Charity Walk in Hong Kong last Sunday. The event served as a pivotal fundraising effort and celebrated the diverse communities that enrich the city, particularly highlighting the invaluable contributions of migrant domestic workers.

This year, the MFMW set an ambitious goal to raise HK $300,000, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting its core services and programs. The fundraising will end this month– as many doners are still looking to donate.

The Charity Walk took place from 11 AM to 1 PM, with participants split into different groups offering two different scenic routes– from St. John’s Cathedral to the Peak or the Zoological and Botanical Gardens. ENDING PROGRAM-

Following the walk, the ending program was held from 1 PM to 2 PM at St. John’s Cathedral, including a prize presentation, recognizing participants such as Happy Home Nomination and supporters for their contributions, as well as cultural performances that showcased the rich heritage of the migrant community.

The festivities continued with carnival booths offering free activities and services such as free massage, game booths, and case guidance to promote physical and mental well-being for migrant domestic workers. Mission for Migrant Workers has previously hosted similar health outreach such as basic health checks back in May 2024.

The Annual Charity Walk, for the public and the migrant workers, is more than just a fundraising event; it is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of migrant workers. By fostering connections between diverse communities, the walk encouraged understanding and respect, helping to break down barriers and build lasting relationships.

The funds raised will directly contribute to MFMW’s essential services, which include legal aid, counseling, educational workshops, and advocacy efforts. These programs play a crucial role in empowering migrant domestic workers, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive in Hong Kong.

It is my second time joining this walk with my jiejie. I think it is really important to celebrate them and so I’m very thankful for M4MW for always creating a comfortable space for them,”said  Gigi Law, a college student.

The Annual Charity Walk organized by the Mission for Migrant Workers was a resounding success, bringing together individuals from all walks of life in support of a noble cause. With a goal of HK $300,000, the event not only raised vital funds but also celebrated the contributions of the migrant domestic worker community, promoting harmony and understanding in Hong Kong.

As the organization reflects on this successful fundraising event, the public is reminded that every step taken is a step towards a brighter future for migrant workers in our city. M4MW has been selected as one of the Charity Partners for the @schkmarathon Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon next year.
