7 must-go events in Hong Kong for Christmas 2020

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year! Though it is necessary for us to avoid excessive public gatherings with the fourth wave of Covid-19 outbreak, there are still a lot of festive events in Hong Kong for us to celebrate the holiday season.

  1. A Disneyland Christmas at Hong Kong Disneyland

With its new castle just reopened, Hong Kong Disneyland is a popular destination where you can spend a fun day on the thrilling rides and celebrate the Christmas spirit with your family and friends. 

Visit Hong Kong Disneyland to take pictures at the grand outdoor Christmas tree, sing and dance with Mickey Mouse and friends at the Christmastime Ball, and even watch the snow fall on the main street. There will also be a number of Christmas themed souvenirs available in stores where you can find the perfect Christmas gift for your family and friends.

  1. Tatler x The Upper House Christmas Market

Although the Christmas Market at Stanley Plaza has been canceled this year due to the pandemic, for those who want to experience the holiday spirits, there are still plenty of Christmas markets in town! 

The Upper House will host a Christmas Market on Sunday, November 29 this year. The market will be held at the Upper House’s iconic open-air space, providing a luxurious shopping and culinary experience. The hotel will partner with a number of famous brand names including food, tea, jewelry and clothing brands. Guests have to purchase tickets for this event.

  1. The Steamship Santa Adventure at Pacific Place

This year, a steamship will arrive at the Pacific Place, bringing Captain Santa and his elves to visit the holiday shoppers. Other than the array of shops and restaurants where you can grab a delicious meal and find the perfect gift, there are a number of festive activities available. You can visit the Christmas markets, join festive workshops and learn to craft festive gifts from the elves. There is even an AR experience where you can meet Santa at his Cabin! All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Operation Santa Claus to help children in need.

  1. Nutcracker by the Hong Kong Ballet

Join Clara and Fritz on their unforgettable journey on Christmas, as they valiantly battle the Rat King, visit the Land of Sweet, and meet the Sugarplum Fairy with the Nutcracker Prince. A classical holiday stage production for the entire family, the Hong Kong Ballet has brought to you the Nutcracker this year. It is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday with the magic of Tchaikovsky’s timeless score and to be immersed in a night of elegant and mesmerizing performances. 

  1. K11 X’mas Market

This December, K11 Art Mall will host a weekly weekend market featuring local handicraft brands. Hong Kong creative artists and crafters will get to share their designs, products and festive joy with the customers. You can find different handcrafted Christmas gifts here for your loved ones, including handmade soap, calligraphy cards, Christmas cards, puppets and earrings. The market will be held on the first and second floor of K11 Art Mall. 

  1. Hong Kong Philharmonic’s: Christmas Fantasia

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir and Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus, together with the HK Phil, will be performing a festive programme on Christmas Eve this year! The musical program features some of the classic Christmas songs, including selected pieces from The Nutcracker and the famous song Ave Maria. Join the Hong Kong Philharmonic this Christmas Eve for an unforgettable night of Christmas orchestral music.

  1. Christmas Lighting Garden at the Harbour City

The Harbour City Ocean Terminal Deck will be transformed into a Christmas Lighting Garden this year, where the entire garden will be covered with lighting decorations such as rainbow-like clovers and snowflake-shaped dandelions. Besides the festive decorations, there will also be music and lighting show in the evening for people to enjoy. Visitors to the garden are suggested to pre-register online as there are only a limited number of guests allowed per time.

In addition, there is a Christmas Bear Toy Store at the entrance of the mall. The European-style wooden cottage has 30 different sizes of Christmas teddy bears, along with a 3-meter-tall giant teddy bear! The toy store and teddy bears are definitely a great place to take some festive pictures with your friends.
