Food waste is the largest category of landfill in Hong Kong. It consists of 36% of the total landfill. While 3,337 tons of food are being wasted each day, individuals and local organization attempts to address this growing issue of food waste management.
Lee Wai Yan, a baker, decided to participate in Bread Run after seeing so much bread thrown away. This voluntary event was initiated by a local NGO called “Feeding Hong Kong”. Here, Bread Runners from all over Hong Kong grab the unsold stock of food from bakeries and distribute them to the elderly and the underprivileged.
