Skip the Date: Galentine’s Day in Hong Kong

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, but who needs a date when you can spend the day with your closest friends? While many anticipate romantic celebrations, not everyone has a partner to share the occasion with.

Instead, take this opportunity to cherish your closest friends with these activities to do around Hong Kong.

Galentine’s Day falls on Feb. 13, the eve of Valentine’s Day. Of course, you can take this opportunity to spend a casual night with your friends, stay in and watch cheesy romance movies, or you could hit the town and enjoy what Hong Kong has to offer.

Carbone

Just because you’re celebrating Galentine’s Day with friends doesn’t mean you should miss out on a romantic candlelit dinner. Carbone, located on Wyndham Street in Central, is known for their iconic Mario’s Meatballs – hearty and homemade, covered in thick red sauce – and signature pasta dishes like their Spicy Rigatoni Vodka.

Featured in the Michelin Guide, this New York-Italian fusion has several branches around the world. It offers the perfect atmosphere for a night with the girls, with ambient chandeliers and deep red-and-black checkered floors, giving you the chance to dress up for a delicious and indulgent evening.

In a similar vein, La Vache is a restaurant that has that casual yet elegant vibe that you’re looking for. With branches located across Hong Kong—including Soho, Tsim Sha Tsui, Pacific Place, the Peak, and Exchange Square—this Parisian-style steakhouse offers a simple yet fulfilling menu of premium tender steak, fresh salad, unlimited steak frites, and a range of irresistible dessert options.

Picture soft music, red-and-white tablecloths, and warm lighting – a relaxing dinner here would be the perfect place to close the night out after a day with friends.

Go flower shopping

With the Lunar New Year holidays coming up, vibrant flowers are blooming everywhere as vendors eagerly set up stalls across Hong Kong’s bustling streets and markets. This is the perfect chance to go with your friends and gift each other your very own bouquet of flowers!

Nestled in the Mong Kok and Prince Edward area, the Mong Kok Flower Market bursts with colorful and fresh flowers. While the Valentine’s season calls for red roses, this doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the other gems this market has to offer. Yellow roses and sunflowers symbolize happiness and loyalty, making it perfect for gifting them to your besties.

Watch the sunset

There’s nothing better than catching a stunning sunset view while reminiscing with your gal friends. Take one of the scenic routes along Hong Kong’s waterfront promenades for a picture-perfect Galentine’s moment.

With the recent completion of the Hong Kong Island Promenade spanning the north border of Hong Kong Island from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan, the harbour views during sunset are a definite must-see. Across the harbour, the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and Avenue of Stars also offer that picturesque view of the Hong Kong skyline. These spots are all easily accessible by public transport with just a short walk.
