Race in Style: The Fashionable Fête at Happy Valley

Chanel Hong Kong Fashion Show may have come to an end, but the spirit of high fashion continues. This November, Happy Wednesday presents “Race in Style”, a glamorous series of events at the Happy Valley Racecourse. Every Wednesday from November 1st to 22nd, the racecourse transforms into a chic fashion hub, blending the elegance of horse racing with the allure of high fashion.

A Grand Introduction to Glamour

Happy Valley Racecourse has long been a destination for those who enjoy the thrill of horse racing and night vibes. This November, “Race in Style” promises to amplify this tradition, turning the racecourse into a night fashion show runway where guests can showcase their latest looks. With eye-catching installations providing a perfect backdrop for photos, attendees can let their inner supermodel shine. Guests also have access to a curated wardrobe of chic accessories, giving their outfits the final touch of glamour.

“Everyone dresses in their own style here, so I have to dress up too! I am here to bring joy to everyone!” said Chris, a host at one of the event’s game booths.

Insta-Worthy Moments

The event also featured the Mirror Room, an immersive space perfect for capturing Instagram-worthy moments. Renowned British milliner Emily Baxendale, the founder of luxury headwear brand Emily-London, showcases her exquisite designs at the Beer Garden. The hats were placed next to the Mirror Room, and guests eagerly posed for photos wearing the hats, hoping to win prizes for the best-dressed revellers.

People can upload their photos to their Instagram stories, tagging “@happywednesdayhk” and adding “#RaceInStyle”. Finally, Emily Baxendale would select a winner with the most matching outfit to win a designated Emily-London nell hat pin. The winner will be announced on Nov. 27 at noon.

A Night of Entertainment

The evening was not just about fashion. The entertainment lineup was also designed to keep the energy high and the crowd engaged. The OnPoint band delivered a show-stopping performance with their sultry vocals, setting the tone for a night of celebration. Attendees participated by dancing and singing along, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere. There was also a lucky wheel for attendees to spin; if they complete the tasks on the wheel, they can earn a free drink ticket.

“Some female visitors dress so special, like they are attending a party,” said Charlotte, a staff member at the Jockey Club. She also added that the number of visitors was more than last Wednesday because of the event.

A Celebration of Fashion and Community

The “Race in Style” event encourages guests to thoughtfully curate their outfits, emphasizing the art of mixing and matching garments for a more striking ensemble. Kathy, an attendee, highlighted this aspect, said,

It enhances our sense of fashion by encouraging people to dress up meaningfully, prompting us to consider how to combine and match clothing for a more appealing look.

Tsz-ying, another attendee, observed, “This event makes people’s mood more elevated and the overall atmosphere is uplifting. More foreigners dress up elaborately compared to local people.”

The event has also drawn attention for its stylish attendees. Visitor Mr. Wong said that many fashionable women attended the event, and the hats they wore were very elegant.
