Shu Uemura CITY MART Pop-up Store: A Fusion of Modern Beauty and Retro Pop

From September 20th to 29th, the Japanese luxury cosmetics brand Shu Uemura brings the world’s first Shu Uemura CITY MART pop-up store to Harbour City in Hong Kong. Inspired by the retro pop style and Japanese convenience stores, Shu Uemura creates an interactive and immersive experience for beauty-loving guests to enjoy.

“The unique pop-up store is designed with the hope that guests would feel the same relaxed feeling of shopping at a convenience store when purchasing cosmetics. The addition of retro pop music elements allows guests to have a refreshing experience, giving them more pleasure and satisfaction in their shopping,” said Shu Uemura salesperson Cindy.

The kokeshu at the entrance of Shu Uemura CITY MART catches people’s attention. Inspired by the Japanese doll kokeshi, it pays tribute to Japanese craftsmanship. It represents the creative and artistic qualities of Shu Uemura and is the signature of the brand. The standing kokeshu was specially designed for the Shu Uemura CITY MART pop-up store. The red urban streetwear on the kokeshu fuses Chinese and Japanese elements, while the headphones evoke Shu Uemura’s creativity and Tokyo playground atmosphere, drawing people in.

New Products Launch

The Shu Uemura pop-up store is also a stage for the new product launch. Shu Uemura’s new unlimited care tsuya serum foundation and lipstick are displayed in the refrigerator, reflecting the brand’s philosophy of natural and clear Japanese makeup.

A selection of the hottest makeup products is on display, including limited edition lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, and skincare products. These products attract many makeup lovers with their unique packaging design and superior quality. In particular, the color combinations of the beauty products remind the guests of pop looks and trigger their desire for consumption. In addition, there are also gifts for different amounts of money spent, such as ice cream, makeup brushes, and makeup bags.

Interactive Experience Zone

At the pop-up store, there are several interactive experience zones, demonstrating Shu Uemura’s aesthetics to the finest. One of them is designed for the makeup creation, where professional makeup artists offer guests personalized makeup designs. Guests can choose from a variety of color combinations to customize their own unique makeup style.

If guests are unsure about what styles suit them the most, they can also use the beauty style tester in the store. After analyzing the personality questions that guests input, the machine will immediately determine the guest’s traits and suitable makeup styles. Then, the makeup artist will provide them with a free makeup creation.

Selfie Gallery

After completing the signature Shu Uemura makeup look, guests can move on to the next highlight of the store – the Selfie Gallery. In the center of the selfie gallery stands a giant surprise bucket, presenting Shu Uemura’s signature eyebrow pencil. It creates a perfect backdrop that symbolizes the fusion of commercial elements and artistic flair. Guests can take photos with the bucket with up to six friends. The camera on the ceiling captures these moments and automatically prints out high-quality photos, leaving every guest with great memories.
