The Hong Kong Museum Festival 2025 has officially commenced with the Fun@Museum Carnival, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). Held from November 1 to 2 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, the large-scale outdoor carnival marks the grand opening of a month-long cultural celebration featuring over 100 programmes across 17 museums and art spaces.

This year’s festival, themed “Museum Anniversary Year”, celebrates major milestones for six of Hong Kong’s museums — the 70th anniversary of the Li Cheng Uk Han Tomb discovery, the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong Museum of History, the 45th anniversary of the Hong Kong Space Museum, the 40th anniversary of the Hong Kong Railway Museum, the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and the 1st anniversary of the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence.
The Fun@Museum Carnival features a wide range of free family-friendly activities, including interactive games, workshops, and live stage performances. Highlights include “Jumbo Museum Journey”, “Dazzling Ping Pong Fun”, “Collab Art Live!”, and the nostalgic “Classic Times Photo Booth”, along with multiple themed check-in spots for visitors to capture memorable moments.

“It’s actually really fun — I didn’t expect a museum event to feel like a street fair!” said Ms. Fung, who came with her 8-year-old daughter. “She loves the games and art booths. It’s nice to see them playing and learning something at the same time.”

Hands-on experiences such as the “Cyanotype Workshop” offer participants the chance to explore creative techniques, while performances at the main stage bring energy and excitement to the festive atmosphere. All activities are free of charge and open to the public.
Visiting from Malaysia, Tan shared, “I came across the festival by chance while travelling, and I’m really impressed. It shows a different side of Hong Kong — full of creativity, friendly people, and a lot of cultural energy.”
According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the carnival aims to “connect the public with Hong Kong’s museums in an engaging, enjoyable way, while encouraging younger generations to explore culture and history beyond the walls of traditional exhibitions.”
Throughout November, museums across the city will continue the celebrations with a rich line-up of weekend programmes, creative workshops, and special exhibitions — inviting residents and visitors alike to experience the diversity and vitality of Hong Kong’s museum culture.
