Pumpkin-Spicy Halloween in Hong Kong

When the calendar hits October, it is no surprise to see plentiful decorations of pumpkins and cotton spider webs. Starbucks starts to bring in pumpkin spice latte, along with Frankenstein frappuccinos. The once-a-year Halloween party is definitely one of the most joyful festivals for many people in Hong Kong. Although Halloween generates from the Christian spirit of Western countries, Hong Kong people, Christian or not, consider it as an opportunity to dress themselves up into whoever they have wanted to be and hang out with their fellow monster friends.

There are abundant choices for the people in Hong Kong to do during the Halloween season: dancing at the Ocean Park Halloween Bash with zombies, shopping at Causeway Bay and watching the fascinating aliens’ dance and zombie walk, joining the fairytale Villains Night Out in Disneyland. Streets here are stuffed with people, from global tourists to local residents, from old couples wearing evil’s horns to children holding pumpkin lamps. Bars and restaurants are decorated with spider webs, pumpkins and skeletons. Waiters and waitresses are welcoming the guests in outstandingly detailed costumes. Some booths along the streets also provide make-up service for people who come without preparation. Thousands of people put on the most creepy or funny outfits and decorate the streets with color and laughter. Zombies, vampires, and the iconic Donald Trump, you name it. Walking on streets, you will have the chance to take a selfie with all kinds of famous characters from no matter animations, movies or games, and of course, with famous “politicians”.
